What is Tara up to?
I am so glad you asked!
I am currently a theatre teacher in Gwinnett County, Georgia. I teach multiple levels of acting classes, as well as Technical Theatre, Scene Study, Directing, and Musical Theatre. We produce 7 productions a year and compete in GHSA One Act Competition and The Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (Shulers). We are an award-winning program, receiving awards such as One Act State Runner-Up, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Costumes and Best Set. Most recently, our musical,Chicago, received two honorable mentions with the Shuler Awards: Best Direction and Best Actor.
Earlier on, I returned from Phoenix, Arizona, where I had the opportunity to study Moment Work with Tectonic Theatre Project's Moisés Kaufman and Barbara Pitts. I had studied Level One of Moment Work with Leigh Fondakowski and Andy Paris in New York.
I was so incredibly inspired by the artistry and collaborative process, that I created and taught an upper-level class called: Devised Theatre: A Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration. During this course, VCU Arts undergraduates joined forces to become part of a cross-disciplinary, ensemble-based exploration. In the process, the roles of the artist were examined and reimagined. The class culminated in innovative works, created and performed by the students. Giving artists the freedom to discover together and the privilege to learn from one another allowed outcomes to become truly poetic.
I had the remarkable honor to travel to Door County, Wisconsin to study with the brilliant Carol Sills. Carol and her husband, Paul Sills developed Story Theatre, highly inspired by Carol's mother-in-law, Viola Spolin's work. (Photos below)
